First, we need to say that Youth Olympic Games started from and inspired by Children of Asia International Sports Games held every four years in the Republic of Sakha.

That was republic officials who had been repeating something like ‘This is the time to launch Youth Olympic Games movement. Children of Asia is the best live example. Just take a look. Our Games are gaining ground. Give us your support.’ Prior to 2004 Children of Asia, the International Olympic Committee said ‘Ok’ and granted the Games with the IOC patronage. Then IOC picked up the idea and made it more worldwide. Last winter we heard news saying Singapore were chosen to be the first Youth Olympic Games host.
So…
This time we are expecting to host 18 international national teams: Republic of Azerbaidzhan, Thailand, Mongolia, India, Turkmenistan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Japan, South Korea, Laos, China, Indonesia, Jordan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Lebanon, Republic of Uzbekistan, Syria, Singapore. Moreover, there will be 26 Russian regional teams.
Traditionally, China, India and Kazakhstan will send strong teams. Last time there were leaders. However, medals-gathering contest, I think, the winner will be the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The reason is simple. Yakutia will be presented with two teams. It seems a little bit unfair. But our elders want to give their kids a chance to feel Olympic fever. So let it be so, and let’s be not so harsh to host region.
The Games will be held on July 3-14, 2008.
In three republic cities, Yakutsk, Mirny, Nerungri.
