Tips for dealing with the Russian Migration Service?

‘Always have problems with the Russian migration service, especially with registration issue. Will you give me clue of how to deal with these inspectors?’ one good man is asking.

To have a valid Russian visa is not enough for traveling across the country.

1st tip

Before crossing the Russian border, complete a migration card that can be given on plane/ship board. When done, submit it to frontier service, take it back with a necessary stamp (please, double check whether you have the stamp), and keep it in close safe place together with passport. Don’t loose the card. Otherwise, you’ll get the 1st problem.

If you lost the migration card, in the course of the first three days you need to come to the closest office of the Russian migration service. Declare about your loss, complete necessary forms, pay little fine and get a duplicate of the card.

2nd tip

Be registered in a migration service office every time, when you arrive in new place/city/town within Russia. On the first day of arrival! You need to be registered if you’re planning to stay in the city for three days at least.

If you stay in a hotel, you may get registration right in the hotel during check-in procedure. If at private places, need to go the closest migration office.

3rd tip

In Russia you’re allowed to visit only those cities stated by the inviting organization during invitation issue procedure. Five cities only you may visit during the one visit to Russia.

Hope that helps.
Good luck.
