“Hi Bolot, I plan to travel to Sakha next year and want to ride my motorcycle from Magadan to Lensk, in August. I understand that the road from Yakutsk to Khandyga can be very muddy in this time of year. Is it possible to travel there or is the only way by boat from Khandyga to Yakutsk? Also the road from Yakutsk to Mirny. Some trucks are using this road every day in summer? Is this correct?” wrote Michael.
ANSWER:
You may ride from Khandyga through Yakutsk and Mirny to Lensk without any problems. However, three things you have to keep in mind.
First, there will be many rivers to cross by ferries. You need to pay for ferry ride and therefore reserve some money. The pass costs around 10-15 EURO.
Second, there might be rainy days. So muddy roads and uneasy ride are guaranteed.
Third, you can get to Lensk only through Mirny. The direct road from Yakutsk to Lensk is almost impossible to pass even by a motocycle.
Good luck in your trip!
