In the previous post “Verkhoyansk Info Wanted” it is said that Verkhoyansk is located 650 km north-east of Yakutsk. Is it the same distance to go by a vehicle?
Ok. Let’s count together part by part.
Yakutsk/Nizhnij Bestyakh – Tyungyulyu = 57 km;
Tyungyulyu – Churapcha = 102 km;
Churapcha – Ytyk Kyuel = 79 km;
Ytyk Kyuel – Uolba = 33 km;
Uolba – Megino Aldan – Keskil – Khandyga = 72 km;
Khandyga – Teply Klyuch = 73 km;
Teply Klyuch – up to Kolyma road’s turn north to Topoliny = 29 km;
Kolyma road – Topoliny = 189 km;
Topoliny – Tokuma = 480 km (by winter road);
Tokuma – Tomtor – Batagai = 87 km;
Batagai – Stolby – Verkhoyansk = 81 km.
Total: 1282 km. Plus you need to add the distance from Yakutsk across the Lena river (by ferry) to Nizhnyj Bestyakh.
However, a road map says the distance is 1457 km (1376 km to Batagai then 81 km to Verkhoyansk). The last figure is correct and final.
So that’s not the same. A long way to the North through a short part of the Kolyma road in the East and the Verkhoyansky Range.
