Are there two Mikhail Svetlov cruise ships in Yakutia?

May 26, 2009

An Australian based in Hong Kong keeps asking me. He wrote “A number of travel agents, like tour operator Olympia-Reisen-Sibir, are advertising an Artic cruise tour to Tiksi on the Mikhail Svetlov from July 21 to August 3 (arriving back 3am on August 3.)”

the river cruise ship "Michael Svetlov"

“However, the organizers of the UNESCO and ICOM “Circumpolar Cultures in the Museums Worldwide: Past, Present and Future” to be held in Yakutsk on July 29-August 1, 2009 are putting their participants on the Mikhail Svetlov in Yakutsk from July 28 to August 1.”

“Are there two Mikhail Svetlov cruise ships in Yakutia? Or are there other Artic cruise boats on the Lena to Tiksi and they wrote the wrong name? Or is there a booking mistake?”

My reply:

There is only one cruise ship “Mikhail Svetlov.”

I’ve heard the mentioned concurrency. And I know, that the boat will go to Tiksi, because it was reserved by Olimpia-Reisen a long time ago. And there will be no UNESCO’s conference held on the ship on those days.

That’s the fault of conference orginizers. First, they wished, planned and declared, later they found out that Michail Svetlov had been reserved already. Now they are negotiating about the rent of the similiar ship called “Demyan Bednyj”. As I was said, “Demyan Bednyj” won’t do trips to Tiksi this summer.
