The northernmost transportation in Yakutia?

Received a message from the U.S.:

I think your website is a great service to travellers who are interested in visiting Yakutia! I have been to Yakutsk before and love the nature. After looking though the internet and your site I still have two questions that I couldn’t find answered. Both of them have to do with what kind of roads or passenger services exist.

What can I say? Thanks a lot for giving me a positive feedback. Appreciate it. So good to hear it from time to time. Think, maybe, it will be good to quote such feedbacks in the seperate page category :)

Further find his already answered questions:

What is the northernmost place in Russia one can reach by regular transportation?

It must be Tiksi in Yakutia. Regarding the whole Russia, I cannot say anything definitely.

I know that one can get to Tiksi with the Mechanic Kulibin by river in Summer.

Right. But all the year around a traveller can reach Tiksi from Yakutsk by plane as well. Two aircompanies, i.e. “Polar Airlines” and “Yakutia Airlines”, have regular direct flights. The first one sends its AN 24 on every Tuesday and Friday, the second on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. You might want to check online flight timetable (unfortunately, in Russian only).

Is there anything (passenger ship from Tiksi onward or flight/helicopter) that goes further north, like the Tamyr Peninsula? From what I can see this doesn’t exist, right?

No further public transportation from Tiksi to the north, unfortunately. Charters only. To go as a charter passenger, you need to find an organization that will chart a helicopter or ship and ask for taking you aboard. Usually, research institutions tend to chart a helicopter/ship.

Are there any winter roads?

Yes. By winter roads you can also reach Tiksi. No public buses on the route. You need to find a truck driver who will agree to take you as a passenger. The price depends on your negotiation ability. But it must be much less than a flight ticket is. If to hire a driver with a car, rent rate will be very high. Cannot even say how much it is gonna be.

From Magadan, are there any trucks that go further east towards the Bering Strait or even down the Kamchatka peninsula? Are there any roads at all in that region that one can drive with a suitable car in winter?

I think, yes. It would be much better to check it with the Magadan travel company:

Frankly saying, I have a little knowledge base regarding roads condition in Magadan Oblast.
