I found this question in the list of keywords that have brought some traffic to my weblog, and I recalled Nick Middleton, an Oxford geography lecturer and the creator of the four-series TV show “Going to Extremes.” The first part, btw, depicted his travel to Oymyakon, the Pole of Cold. While staying in the village, [...]

Walter Colebatch, the UK Sibirsky Extreme moto adventure project leader, returned to Yakutia from Baikal. He said good bye to his fellows Tony and Terry, who went back home to England. At that moment, he thought “I still harboured a burning ambition to get to the Arctic Circle in Asia… I just had enough [...]

So… Two UK adventurous bikers of the Sibirsky Extreme travel motorcycle expedition have just ridden the Kolyma Highway. They had left Yakutsk on Thursday afternoon and arrived in Magadan on Sunday evening. 2100 km, 3.5 days, and 7 tyre changes! What did they say about the federal road?
The road was a little better than the [...]

I received this question a year ago from Walter, the leader of the Sibirsky Extreme motorcycle expedition. Remember, I wrote to him an answer (check the post Khandyga – Yakutsk – Mirny – Lensk) and something like “Yes, it is possible to ride it through in summer.” Right at the moment two UK bikers of [...]

Received a message from the U.S.:
I think your website is a great service to travellers who are interested in visiting Yakutia! I have been to Yakutsk before and love the nature. After looking though the internet and your site I still have two questions that I couldn’t find answered. Both of them have to do [...]

Another portion of questions arrived from a Brit solo rond-the-world motocyclist regarding the old part of the Kolyma Highway that runs from Kyubyume through Tomtor to the Magadan Oblast. Found out that the new way Kyubyume – Ust-Nera – the Magadan Oblast is less interesting to drive than the old one. The reason is as [...]

Received a request from a traveller of Croatia: “I am interesting about the road condition in the winter. I mean main road from Yakutsk to Moscow and Vladivostok. Are there any traffic? How about supply, trucks…? Is it possible to go from Moscow to Yakutsk by regular car or 4×4?”

Recently Yakutia was visited by Germans’ Land Rover off-road vehicle expedition “Paris – Moscow – New York: Transcontinental 2009.” Everything went smoothly. Two vehicles entered Russia, expedition members spend a few days in Moscow, gave the press-conference and did much work with cars preparation, then a few weeks on the way to Yakutsk. Eventually they [...]
